" If you wanna know what a person is then look into the eyes but than that's subjective too an extent.
On a very obvious & measurable note, if you wanna know what a person is then give them "Freedom".
The person's wishes, wants, needs & desires all will surface when that person feels "Free" to do so.
E.g. When Indian pple got freedom the first thing they did was to have kids.
As of now even still its a culture to get married by a certain age or to have kids in couple of years marriage & that also someone else's decide that.... Lolz
E.g. What will happen if iPhone is given for free for couple of days.... Lolz
Freedom brings out your core....
Apart the rest all is conditioning which is pathetic & sympathetic.
